PATC Map 9 / VA bus

 

$25 (nonmembers $28) + $8 park fee/pass. Long hike: 10.8 mi., 1950 ft. ascent / 3350 ft. descent. Short hike: 7.3 mi., 1100 ft. ascent / 2850 ft. descent.  Of all of Shenandoah’s notable swimming holes, none surpasses the one (actually, it’s a series of three) we’ll visit today at the bottom of Overall Run Falls.  Our day starts at Elkwallow Gap on the Skyline Drive with long hikers heading north on the Appalachian, Jeremy’s Run, Knob Mtn. Cutoff, and Knob Mtn. Trails.  They’ll join the short hikers near Matthews Arm Campground, from where we’ll descend together on the remote Heiskell Hollow, Weddlewoods, and Beecher Ridge Trails to the swim spot.  Hike exits to Rt. 630 on the Thompson Hollow Trail.
